Permaculture Design Workshop @ Pachamama House
Want to know how to CrEATE an abundant edible landscape? Grow your own food at home using Permaculture design tools that save you time and money while regenerating our earth?
Come along to meet the Organic Motion crew for an opportunity to delve into the ‘Permaculture design fundamentals’ and be hands on to crEATe an edible and efficient landscape.
Learn about the ethics, principles, strategies and common practices, with processes that can be integrated to co-crEATe this sustainable landscape at Pachamama House!
9:00 am Introduction: Welcome, honour, create space and understanding of how the day is going to roll-out. This is not a sit down and listen workshop; you will be participating in collaborative activities, walking, observing, thinking, evaluating and designing - while hopefully learning and having fun!
9:15 am What is Permaculture?
Get a holistic response to the groups understanding, beliefs and needs of permaculture. A reflection and open discussion, expanding on what we know, how to improve and known potentials.
9:30 am Permaculture Design Fundamentals
Approaching the theory to cover ethics, strategies and common practices for understanding of the design processes to apply and use as filters for 'thinking and evaluating' relevant site designs. Gain a basic understanding of methodologies for potential integration into the co-creation of this site design and yours.
10:10 am Quick break to stretch our bodies while learning through listening (and dancing if you get your groove on) to Formidable Vegetable Sound System!
10:20 am Site Analysis - reading the landscape by applied observation and interaction. Take a walk around the Pachamama property to imprint a basic mind map of the landscape that we are working with for the design project and gain the background information of land use from the Pachamama crew. Address the the basic observations for starting the design process;
11:11 am The 2nd quick break to stretch our bodies while learning through listening (and dancing if you get your groove on) to Formidable Vegetable Sound System!
11:20 am Seeding the vision
Time to express each persons creative vision of what could be for the Pachamama site, sharing in the dream to co-create this landscape with understanding of the potentials and infinite possibilities that respects this site; landform, resources, climate, soil, water, infrastructure, people. Document this 'wish list' to expand upon. (Obtain a yield - principe 3)
11:40 am Assessing the Vision - Nourishing the dream Apply regulation and accept feedback (principle 4) to link the connections for each of the elements on site that perform many functions to ensure we maximise efficiency and make decisions about the achievability of the initial vision - with a better understanding to develop purposeful pathways to implement the workable design.
12:00 pm Co-crEATing the design
Use the processes and information gained during the workshop to creatively use and respond to change (principle 12) by drawing the design in a collaborative effort. Include a sector analysis and zoning plan overlay with a relevant location of proposed elements which results in an edible and efficient landscape design.
12:30 pm Lunch Break may start later, depending on how well we manage our time for the day!
The Pachamama House is our beautiful Rainforest retreat where many wonderful gatherings, workshops and events take place. It is also the home for our global organisation Para Pachamama ~ Spirit of Earth. Situated on 5 acres of thriving Rainforest they live with a view to the Eagles nest, who are the Spirit Guardians of the land. Located in Kuranda in Tropical Far North Queensland this tranquil space easily supports weekend workshops for up to 20 participants and day events for up to 50. A private meditation / healing room is available for individual and small group sessions. It is home to many WOOFERS and interns working on inspiring community driven initiatives seeded from local food networks and beyond.
The aim of this workshop is to crEATE a design which is readable and useable by Woofers and visitors to Pachamama House, that enables them to implement sections or elements during their stay, transforming the landscape over time as labour, skills and resources permit.
