Ben Beattie said "growing up in FNQ was a total adventure, we lived in a food forest although I didn’t know it at the time, I just thought that coming home from school and gorging on tropical fruits and nuts straight from the tree was normal."
Ben believes there is a food crisis ahead and that the answer lies in small resilient farms, following beyond organic processes and building intentional communities to share the abundance of nutrient dense foods.
As a fourth generation North Queenslander, Managing Director of Renewable Energy Devices and founder of Beyond Organic Farm near Dimbulah, he spent many years in the field of Optics with varied roles from service, technical, sales and training before finding his passion for renewable energy and solar.
In recent years, Ben's focus has become refined to embrace sustainability, self sufficiency and Permaculture as a natural crossover from renewable energy which also affords him the opportunity to teach others.
His farm will be a Dryland Permaculture Showcase for the Tropics, where his children today, and theirs tomorrow, will walk in a mature fruit and nut food forest like he did.
Ben will be teaching the Alternative Technology subject of the PDC, with a practical design session to design a solar system set up for a home.
